Combines a blood pressure medicine and a cholesterol medicine in one tablet: amlodipine, which relaxes blood vessels by blocking calcium from entering their muscle cells, and atorvastatin, which blocks a liver enzyme the body needs to make cholesterol.

How it works

Caduet puts a blood pressure medicine and a cholesterol medicine into one tablet, and they work on entirely separate problems. Amlodipine blocks calcium from entering the muscle cells lining blood vessels, so the vessels relax and blood pressure drops. Atorvastatin blocks a liver enzyme the body needs to manufacture cholesterol, so LDL ("bad") cholesterol production slows down. It's prescribed for people who need both a blood pressure medicine and a cholesterol medicine, as a matter of convenience — one tablet covers two separate risk factors.

What it’s used for

Caduet is prescribed to people who need both a blood pressure medicine and a cholesterol medicine at the same time — combining amlodipine's blood-pressure-lowering and coronary-artery-disease treatment with atorvastatin's cholesterol-lowering and heart-attack/stroke risk reduction into a single tablet.
