A lab-made that latches onto IL-23, a signaling protein that drives inflammation, blocking it before it can trigger the immune overactivity behind psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.

How it works

Guselkumab targets one specific piece of a protein called IL-23, which the immune system uses to keep inflammation switched on. By grabbing onto that piece before it can dock with immune cells, the drug interrupts a chain reaction that would otherwise flare skin, joint, or gut inflammation. It's precise about which signal it blocks, leaving a related pathway largely untouched.

What it’s used for

Approved for treating moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis, and two forms of inflammatory bowel disease — ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.
