Combines two blood pressure medicines in one tablet: metoprolol, which blocks a stress to slow the heart and ease its workload, and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the blood.

How it works

Lopressor HCT puts two blood pressure medicines into one tablet. Metoprolol blocks a receptor that stress hormones like adrenaline normally activate, so the heart beats slower and with less force, easing its workload. Hydrochlorothiazide works on the kidneys instead, helping them flush out extra salt and water to reduce the fluid volume the heart has to pump. Acting on two different systems lets the combination control blood pressure more effectively than either drug alone.

What it’s used for

Lopressor HCT is prescribed to lower high blood pressure, which reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack over time.
