A lab-made antibody that neutralizes IL-23, an inflammation-driving protein linked to psoriasis and Crohn's disease.
How it works
Risankizumab is an antibody engineered to latch onto one specific piece of IL-23, a signaling protein that revs up inflammation in the body. By grabbing onto IL-23 before it can dock with immune cells, the drug prevents those cells from switching on the inflammatory response. This calms the overactive immune activity that causes skin plaques, joint pain, and gut inflammation.
What it’s used for
Approved to treat moderate-to-severe plaque psoriasis and active psoriatic arthritis in both adults and children 6 and up, as well as moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis in adults.
