Combines two blood pressure medicines in one tablet: lisinopril, which relaxes blood vessels by blocking a that narrows them, and hydrochlorothiazide, a diuretic that helps the kidneys remove extra salt and water from the blood.

How it works

Zestoretic puts two blood pressure medicines into one tablet. Lisinopril blocks a hormone system that narrows blood vessels, so the vessels relax and blood pressure drops. Hydrochlorothiazide works on the kidneys instead, helping them flush out extra salt and water, which lowers the volume of fluid the heart has to pump against. Because they act on different systems, combining them controls blood pressure more effectively than either alone, at lower doses of each.

What it’s used for

Zestoretic is prescribed to lower high blood pressure, which reduces the risk of stroke and heart attack over time.
